The Capital Markets are evolving at rapid pace since the signing of the Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act (JOBS Act) as a new way to raise capital online.
What many marketers don't know however, is that there are a variety of rules and regulations regarding how businesses can accept investment capital and who can market these securities. This all goes back to rule 17(b) of the Securities and Exchange Act of 1933 that came after the great depression of 1929, when unscrupulous unregistered brokers hawked worthless worthless stock to unwitting investors. This Rule is still in effect and the SEC continues to use it to prosecute promoters who violate it.

Crowdfund Intermediary Regulatory Advocates (CFIRA), is a Not-for-Profit 501(c)(6), and was established following the signing of the Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Act. It was formed by the industry’s thought leaders who pioneered the first Crowdfunding Act to serve as advocates and lobbyist for the industry.
CFIRA works alongside the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), and other governmental and quasi-governmental entities to help establish rules, industry standards and best practices.
